So you’ve been chatting with someone you really like, and your first date is TODAY! You rush to the closet, and rummage through your wardrobe hoping to find just the right thing to wear. You want your first impression to be spectacular! Here’s a little advice. When choosing your wardrobe, there is a factor to consider that may not have occurred to you. According to research, color has power!
The big show stopper appears to be RED. Studies reveal that wearing red gets you noticed, by both women and men. Multiple studies on the color red indicate that it has a powerful effect on behavior as well. Red can make others appear more attractive, but it also increases heart rate and blood pressure and can give off sexual vibes, so be careful! If you aren’t seeking that kind of attention, you may want to play it down a little. Add red elements to your wardrobe, and save the full throttle, all red ensemble for a later date.
Want something that pops, but not ready for red? When red meets yellow, you get the fun, energetic color, orange! Orange has often been described as happy, bright and uplifting. On the downside, there are some who feel that it exudes so much energy that it is a tad overwhelming, so if this is the effect it has on you, move on to something else.
If setting a tranquil, relaxed mood is what you’re after, opt for the color blue. Blue is highly favored by many, and calls to mind feelings of serenity and calmness. Blue can actually even lower pulse rate! However, also of great importance is how blue makes you feel. For some it creates feelings of sadness and melancholy, and produces a “blue mood”. If blue has this effect on you, again, steer clear.
Another wonderful choice is green, the color of nature and the outdoors. It is the color of renewal , growth and life. It is vibrant and fresh, and exudes trustworthiness and emotional health. Studies also reveal that it can also stimulate a lively, creative mood!
A “go to” color for many is the color black. It’s not surprising, because its classy and sophisticated, goes with everything, and has a fabulous slimming effect. Again, there is a potential downside. One study, out of the University of Florida, showed hockey players wearing black jerseys were penalized more for aggressive fouls, giving credibility to the notion that black is associated with aggressive mood.
What’s the bottom line? Yes, the colors you wear effect mood, both yours, and those with whom you come into contact with. That being said, the most important factor when choosing the color of your attire is how it makes YOU feel. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable, happy, confident, and completely ready for your first date adventure!
