#059 Jazz it up.

If you are experiencing first date jitters, suggest to your date that you begin your evening by slipping into cozy jazz lounge. Jazz is an excellent remedy for soothing those frazzled nerves. In fact, studies have shown that relaxing music is just as effective as massage for reducing anxiety. In addition, the calming effect of jazz lowers heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. It even boosts immunity by raising immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels, an added bonus. Jazz lends itself to comfortable conversation, and provides a relaxed environment perfectly suited for getting to know one another better. And here’s a fun fact for you. In a 1973 study, Dorothy Retallack played music to plants for a period of two weeks. Plants “listening” to jazz and classical music leaned 15 to 20 degrees toward the radio while plants “listening” to rock music grew away from the radio, became sick, withered and died! So, it seems that even the plants agree; crank up the Coltrane, find the nearest speakeasy, relax and enjoy!
